Scot Yocum with Gun Dogs

About Me

I’m Scot Yocum, owner and lead trainer at Last Cast Dog Company. With over 25 years of experience and nearly 1,000 dogs successfully trained, I specialize in obedience and advanced gun dog training for retrievers, pointers, and flushers. My goal is to help dogs reach their full potential—both in the home and in the field—through clear communication, consistency, and respect for each dog’s individuality.

From passion to profession

A lifelong Floridian from Marion County, FL, I graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Exercise Science and Nutrition. After working several years in my professional field, my passion for dogs developed through upland bird and duck hunting, where I discovered the joy of working alongside these remarkable animals.

Over time, I began supporting fellow dog owners on their training journeys, learning from esteemed retriever trainers such as Jim Van Engen, Andy Attar, Paul Sletten, and Jim Swan. I also spent several years guiding upland bird hunts—including wild bird quail—on plantations in the Red Hills region around Tallahassee, Florida, and Thomasville, Georgia, gaining hands-on expertise in training and handling working dogs on horseback.

As a dog lover and avid hunter, I’m committed to helping others build confidence and strong bonds with their companions. Watching dogs transform into capable, loyal partners both in the home and the field continues to inspire my work every day.
